The first is that I am so glad I got to see her in the part-- she sounds great on the CD, but I was intrigued by how nuanced and subtle so many of her acting choices were once I saw her in person. You don't get a full sense of that on the CD.
Secondly, I love love LOVE that she is going to be Anita in West Side Story. I have some questions about some of the other casting, but not this one! Karen Olivo is this fascinating dichotomy of complete professionalism and seeming rough around the edges. How does one manage to seem rough around the edges after being a professional for so long? I'm fascinated!

Lastly, I am intrigued by Marcy Harriell being named as her replacement. I saw her years ago as Daphne's replacement in Rent, and though I may have been in the minority, I loved her. I think she is fantastic. But what is so interesting is that she could not be more different than Karen Olivo. Karen is all legs and voice (as the NY Times said in thier review, though it probably should have said 'legs, voice and hair;), and Marcy is so wee that she could fit under your shoe. Wee as in, shops at Gap Kids, which I swear I heard her tell someone at the Rent stage door once. Kudos to In the Heights for not stereotyping the part of Vanessa and going in another direction.
One question-- the pics backstage that show Marcy getting ready for her first show made mention of her hair-- how she is using her own very curly hair. It looks EXACTLY like Janet Dacal's hair. Anyone know if Janet's hairstyle will change? Or if they will both just have a head of chin length curly hair? Inquiring minds want to know...
